Prichard Colón stepped through the ropes in October 2015 as a 16–0 super welterweight, a proud Puerto Rican prospect on the brink of bigger stages. Across from him stood Terrel Williams, rough, awkward, and willing to test every limit. From the opening rounds, Colón absorbed a stream of rabbit punches to the back of the head—illegal shots that should have triggered immediate, forceful intervention. Instead, warnings were weak, enforcement softer still, and Colón kept fighting, disoriented but determined not to quit.
By the time he collapsed in the dressing room, the damage was irreversible: a massive brain bleed, 221 days in a coma, then years trapped in a broken body, unable to reclaim the life he’d built. His suffering ignited outrage, pushing the WBC to tighten safety protocols and concussion procedures. Colón recently died at 33, his short, brutalized life now a permanent indictment of a sport that waited too long to protect him.
