David Soul, best remembered as Detective Ken “Hutch” Hutchinson on “Starsky and Hutch,” died on January 4, 2024. His wife, Helen Snell, confirmed his death the following day in a statement reported by Yahoo. “David Soul – beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother – died yesterday (4 January) after a valiant battle for life in the loving company of family,” she wrote. Her words placed his closest relationships at the center of the announcement: a husband, a father, a grandfather, and a brother.

Soul played Hutch from 1975 to 1979 and returned to the role in the 2004 film “Starsky & Hutch.” His career also included “Magnum Force,” “Murder, She Wrote,” “The Yellow Rose,” and “Jerry Springer: The Opera.” Those varied credits reflect a career extending well beyond his signature role.

For viewers, Hutch remains an enduring part of his legacy; Snell’s farewell honors the person his family knew beyond the screen.
